Hineleban to Implement Technical Assistance for Enhanced National Greening Program
Hineleban will soon be commencing the implementation of a Technical Assistance (TA) for the Enhanced National Greening Program to complement its Mindanao Rainforestation Initiative which targets forest rehabilitation and watershed management in the main mountain ranges of Bukidnon and Lanao del Sur.
The TA focuses on software support to five key municipalities in Bukidnon, namely, Libona and Manolo Fortich (Mt. Kitanglad Range), Valencia City (Mt. Kalatungan Range), San Fernando (Matigsalog Range), and Impasug-ong (Pantaron Range), as well as one key municipality in Lanao del Sur, Bumbaran (Bumbaran mountain range).
It aims to strengthen the institutional capacities of the local government units (LGUs), the Indigenous People (IP) communities, and other stakeholders on environmental governance, ecosystem-based planning and project implementation, and in sustaining the hardware component of reforesting the highly depleted watersheds currently being implemented by People’s Organizations with support from Hineleban.
Specifically, the TA will focus on three major activities, namely: a) social preparation and mobilization of stakeholders; b) capability building of LGUs, mountain ranges guard volunteers, and the Council of Elders of IP communities in and around the five mountain ranges; and c) awareness and capability building on payment for environmental services. A team of experts from Hineleban will facilitate the implementation of the TA.
Financial support for the TA will be provided by DENR through the Mindanao Development Authority (MINDA).
