Bukidnon is Ready to Commence INREMP

The League of Municipal Mayors of the Philippines (LMP) Bukidnon Chapter has expressed its commitment to support the implementation of the Integrated Natural Resources and Environmental Management Project (INREMP) during its recent monthly meeting at Mangima Spring Resort in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.

The Project aims to reduce and reverse degradation of watersheds and associated with environmental services caused by forest denudation and unsustainable farming services. It also aims to provide incentives to local communities, LGUs and the DENR for improving natural resource management by generating sufficient and tangible economic benefits.

Eighteen (18) municipalities and two (2) cities of the province are target beneficiaries of the Project, which will be implemented for seven years. The Project has four major components, namely: river basin and watershed planning, smallholder and institutional arrangements, capacity building, and project management and support services.

The Honorable Governor Jose Maria R. Zubiri, Jr. has enunciated that Bukidnon is ready to launch the said Project in early August. The Chairman and CEO of Hineleban Foundation Inc. (HFI) Dr. Urooj S. Malik, in his capacity as the Special Adviser for Environment and Watershed Conservation has presented the overall project implementation and management arrangement with detailed costs per subcomponents.

“With close cooperation among all parties concerned, we can make this Project as successful model for other provinces and regions to follow,” Dr. Malik said.

“I entrusted HFI as program advisor because they love Bukidnon. Their volunteerism and free consultancy have enormous contributions in all the environmental endeavors of the province at a pro bono basis,” Governor. Zubiri commended.

The INREM Project is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Global Environment Fund (GEF) and Climate Change Fund. (Emmilou R. Gonzaga- Social Marketing and Advocacy Specialist)
