AFD and Hineleban Officials Meet the Seven Bukidnon Indigenous Tribes in Songko

On November 7, 2014, the French Development Agency’s (AFD) representatives traveled to Songko, Lantapan to conduct a preliminary reconnaissance for the upcoming project, ‘Enhancing Governance of Integrated Ecosystems through Reforestation and Livelihood Development in Mindanao’ (ENGINE – Refo). AFD’s Country Director, Mr. Christophe Blanchot, together with AFD’s Technical Staff, Ms. Leoni Claeyman, met with all seven tribes of Bukidnon’s leaders at the Talaandig Tribe’s conference hall.

Datu Makapukaw Adolino Saway opened with warm, welcoming remarks to the participants, followed by an introduction of the AFD representatives and program rationale by Dr. Urooj Malik. Mr. Christophe Blanchot exhibited the twin objectives and timeline of AFD’s ENGINE-Refo project to the forum, namely: sustainable ecosystems and inclusive livelihood, ensuring the leaders of an IP community-driven and professionally operated venture. He included details of what the AFD could bring in to benefit all communities, and a realistic timeline of activities.
