The Technical Working Committee (TWC) chaired by Dr. Urooj S. Malik, the Chairman and CEO of Hineleban Foundation Inc., has engaged in a deliberate and constructive discussion on the status, activities and accomplishments of the foregoing Enhanced National Greening Program- Mindanao Rainforestation Initiative (ENGP: MRI) during its Third TWC Meeting last February 26, 2014 at the Sankanan Farm Conference Room, Sankanan, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.

The ENGP: MRI focuses on the rehabilitation of highly degraded forests in priority mountain ranges of Bukidnon and Lanao del Sur. It aims to percolate best practices on rainforestation through intensive planting of calliandra as nurse crop, then carribean pine and indigenous species as permanent tree species, as adopted in the Hineleban model farm in Sankanan.

The ENGP: MRI Project Manager, Dr. Norma V. Llemit, presented the status and accomplishments of the project which garnered popular support by the recipient communities. A total of 265 hectares in Wao and Bumbaran have been planted with calliandra as nurse crop.

During the meeting, Dr. Llemit apprised the body on the proposed scaling up of ENGP: MRI in Wao, Lanao del Sur. Dr. Urooj S. Malik enunciated that Hineleban is also seeking for efficient methodologies and approaches to plunge livelihood opportunities like coffee production in the communities. The team seers to come-up with good scaling-up proposal which upholds holistic interventions for reforestation and livelihood in the locus of project implementation.

Assistant Secretary Alindatu K. Pagayao of DENR-ARMM expressed support and affirmation on the proposal for expansion together with the key officials of the DENR in regional, provincial and municipal levels during the said meeting.

The ENGP: MRI is an integrating and converging force among the Department of Environment and Natural Resources- ARMM, Local Government Units (LGUs) and the People’s Organization (PO) towards a more focused and unified interventions for the envisioned green renaissance in Mindanao.
